Report on the cross country at Cirencester.

                                            CIRENCESTER PARK OXON CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE

Banbury Harriers medal contenders keep their prospects in contact at the fourth fixture of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League on Sunday held at Cirencester Park.                           

  Both Ros Kelling and young Skip Snelson laid strong claims for gold medals. In the senior woman’s race Kelling finished in an excellent 6th place. This leaves her a long way ahead in the veteran 50 category and also well placed in the veteran35 age group. Her reward, selection for the county at next months televised Inter-Counties Championships.

Michelle Bartlett gave her good support in 12th place, with Donna Allen leading Hook Norton home in 34th place of the 130starters.

 Snelson after Sundays run shares equal first place in the under eleven boy’s age group with next month’s final at Wheatley to come. On Sunday he finished 4th in a close run race with his rival Kai Francis in second place of the 50starters.

 Emily Thompson sealed her place in the county team when finishing 6th in the under- fifteen girls race. Three other young Banbury Harriers justified county selection on Sunday Owen Knox finished 9th in the under thirteen boys race, Tia Williams likewise in the girls equivalent.  Gregor Kelling also gained selection in the under fifteen boy’s age group with a good run. Luke Sherlock despite not running on Sunday gained selection in the under seventeen boy’s age group.

   The senior man’s race produced another solid run from Tim Wright for Banbury Harriers in 10th place. Tom Offord followed up last week’s good run in the Midland Championships finishing 13th on Sunday, this three places in front of Hook Norton Harrier Tom Bradford. Also finishing in the top 100 on Sunday, Simon Pritchard in 49th place and Cherwell Runners Ian Thomas in 55th place.

Other harriers were:- In the U9's B. Knox 3rd, R. Snelson 6th and B. Ballantine 8th. 3 in the top 8 from 55 starters is a great result in this new age group.

In the U11 girls we had L. Berry 33rd and E. Darvell 43rd.

In the U11 boys following Skip we had S Bull 21st, T Williams 23rd and C Charles 29th.

T Williams was the only U13 girl but ran well in 9th place out of  48 entrants.

O Knox 9th and B Carpenter 21st ran in the U13 boys race

following Emily in the U15/17 girls was T Wanttaja in 30th

G Kelling was our only runner in the U15/17 boys coming in in 17th place. 

In the womens race our other entrant was Lisa Ansell in 77th.

In the Mens race our other runners were P Coy 151st,  and N Frape 195th.
