Last event at Wheatley

Banbury Harriers produced yet another fantastic sports hall performance in the 5th event of the season held at Wheatley on Sunday 15th March. A new record was set by the outstanding Abbey Anson in the under-15 vertical jump and both Anson and Christopher Charles, in the under-11 boys, collected gold medals on the day.

The under-11 boys maintained their strong season’s performance with victory in the chest push and an individual 1st place for Charles. Charles and Ethan Aldous also won the 3-lap posting the 2nd and 3rd fastest times of the day. Charles and Oliver Clamp won the vertical jump again with the 2nd and 3rd places on the day and Clamp also recorded an individual 2nd place in the speed bounce. The girls proved equally as strong with a second place finish in the speed bounce which included 2nd and 3rd individual placing’s for Inka Moyaert and Elizabeth Anderson. The girls also produced overall 3rd place finishes in the 1-lap, vertical jump and chest push.

In the under-13 boys vertical jump Oscar Moyaert and Billy Mellor-Brooke triumphed with Moyaert placed 2nd individually. Moyaert then teamed up with Theo Williams to finish second in the shot putt and Williams then teamed up with Mellor-Brooke to claim 3rd in the triple jump with Mellor-Brooke finishing 2nd individually following an excellent jump on the day. In the girl’s under-13’s Emelina Darvill and Matilda Donaghy claimed an excellent overall first place in the shot and Lizzie Eskender and Maia Cook claimed a very strong second place in the 4-lap.

In the under-15 girls the normal procession of victories flowed, outlining again how fortunate the club is to have so much talent in this age group. Anson and Rebecca Scott were 1st and 2nd in the 2-lap and Evie Hawkins and Scott were 1st and 2nd respectively in the long jump (an event in which Harriers claimed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th). Anson set a new record with her massive vertical jump before teaming up with Scott for a 1st and 2nd place in the shot. Lily Hamp won the 4-lap and Helen Dubber the speed bounce. Unsurprisingly the girls also won their relay.

As previously mentioned Charles and Anson picked up gold medals for the series but there were also silver medals for Oliver Clamp and Emily Thompson, with Rebecca Scott also picking up a well-deserved bronze.

Lastly I just need to pass on a HUGE well done from Anne to all the team for all your superb efforts and equally important is also a huge thank you to all the parents for your continued support this year.
